Our Cornerstone Features

You Control Your Keys

Have a piece of paper and a pencil ready when you register. You’ll need to write down your unique 24 word recovery phrase. It’s the same process you’d go through if you were making a new crypto wallet.

Stored in your 24 word recovery phrase is your master key. It was generated on your computer, using the cryptographically secure features provided by your operating system. It never leaves your computer and is wiped from memory after signup.

Warning! And reassurance: We can't reset your password, or be coerced to reset your password, because your data is not protected with your password - it's protected with your keys. Resetting your password without your recovery phrase would simply render your data inaccessible. Only you control your key. Keep it safe!

Anti-Screenshot, Recording Detection

In this new era of life on the internet, screenshotting is so easy that it doesn’t even register as a breach of trust. Our mission is to restore that trust, one conversation at a time.

In an off-the-record conversation, the service detects that a screenshot has been taken or a recording has started, then immediately alerts you - so you can pause the conversation or end the call. Users who continually violate the trust of the community will be blacklisted by the server.

This is never a perfect offering. No one can ‘close the analog hole’ - which means things like, for example, the other party could always have a hidden camera on a different device. Our aim is to significantly raise the barriers for bad actors. To restore a social contract. To make the risks feel a lot more like they do in real life.

Security Console

Okay, there’s one frill: we’ve added an old-school hacker-style security console to our registration, login, and call reservation system. A symbol of transparency, you can always click on it to get a glimpse of what’s going on behind the curtain.

Single-Use Calls

We know single use plastics are bad, but in a digital age, single-use anything is good. You know the saying “once it’s on the internet, it will last forever?” We don’t think this is a good thing. With Birdcalls, the call link you generate is only good for that call. That means that conversations can end, and users can go their separate ways, as needed.

No, You Hang up First

We know it can be painful to stick to meeting limits or particular time frames. That’s why we’ve also added this feature: a call limit to all of our calls. Whatever length of call you have generated, a notice will appear five minutes before the end of the call, and then one minute before the end of the call to alert all users that their time is nearly over. Keep conversations to the point and on-track.
